All of the imagery and objects in this body of work are digital materials which were created using a multitude of software. I use the physical properties of real materials, like specular and glossiness, to render images which are photoreal, replica,and/or tactile. I created all of the materials from a spectrum of algorithmic process andmanual process. It is my intention to sacrifice control occasionally over certain aspects of the process. I created some of the materials using a photograph to control its physical properties. In most of the work, I used mathematical processes to create patterns and manipulate those patterns to control physical properties. In 3D printing these materials, I am stripping the materials of physical properties and isolating their shape. I also 3D printto remove the process of digitally rendering, whereI have control over the qualities of the camera. I believe that having used a variety of processes has better represented the similarities and differences between photorealism, replication, and tactility.
