For this project, I am framing Panic Disorder in a manner that encourages viewers without the disorder to empathize with those who live with it. I have made a virtual reality environment that a viewer can explore. This experience begins in a room with stimuli that will trigger in the viewer a feeling of being overwhelmed and a desire to escape. In order to do so, the viewer will need to find a vent and interact with it. They will then be released into a new space, designed to calm the viewer. I chose to explore this particular subject to better understand Panic Disorder, as it is a prevalent concern for many young adults, and I am a young adult, myself. I then want to take this understanding and enable others outside of the age group to grasp a concept that may be foreign to them.
I interviewed multiple individuals to better understand their life with Panic Disorder and to translate that to a creative experience. This has given me a database to draw from to keep my artistic depiction realistic to those that might not understand how this disorder might feel.
